Why Professional Portraits Look Different from Smartphone Photos

In a world where cutting-edge technology is at our fingertips, what makes professional portraits any different from the photos we can take on our smartphones? This is a question that I hear often, and it's understandable. The camera quality on our everyday devices has gotten so advanced, but there is a big difference between a quick snapshot on your phone and commercial-level quality that can be captured by a professional.

There is definitely a lot to be said for the convenience of pulling out your phone and getting a shot instantly. While this is great for everyday life, in the moments of our life that we want to preserve, professional portraits are more important now than ever.

Undeniable Camera Quality

While phone camera quality has dramatically increased over the years, it still cannot begin to compare to the quality of a professional camera. Professional cameras are made with full-frame sensors that are made to gather far more light and detail than your typical smartphone camera. Professional cameras produce a bolder, sharper image – it's just a fact.

While smartphones can be great for capturing fun photos for Instagram or Facebook when you're on the go, when it comes down to it, that is all they are good for. If you're wanting photos that you will want to use for LinkedIn, an upcoming press release, your new company website, or any professional moments that you will want to look back on, it is best to go with a professional photographer to get that high-quality image.

Unique Skillset

Professionals are professionals for a reason; we are able to capture shots that people with little experience in the field struggle with. Whether it's certain angles, lighting changes, thoughtful posing, or making you feel comfortable in front of the camera, we are trained to adapt and perform. There are details that professionals can capture that those with even the most trained eye can not catch with your typical iPhone camera.

I have spent years perfecting every little detail of my shots because I want to provide my clients with a one-of-a-kind experience, ending with photos that they will cherish for a lifetime. Professionals put care and passion into their work, it's clear when looking at the final product that it can't just be recreated. Portraits are not something that you get taken every day, so when you do, you should get the most out of your photos.

Professional Editing & Retouching

A big part of photography is the editing process that comes in after capturing the shot. When going with a professional photographer, you also get the professional editing that comes along with it. Professionals are able to take every little detail of your picture and make it perfect. Things like blemishes or skin irritation are easily fixable in the editing process, while still keeping the photo natural looking, which is not always accomplishable when editing with your smartphone or using AI.

Come See Me

Photography is more than just looking at something and pressing a button. Photography requires skill, imagery, and creativity that does not come naturally across your typical smartphone photographer. Portraits should convey a story, and I want to be the one to help you tell it.

Let me give you photos that you will cherish for a lifetime.
